The new, extremely compact IoT gateway SIMATIC IOT2050 is located directly in the production environment on the wall or on a standard mounting rail and acquires, processes, harmonizes and stores machine and production data from various data sources. It forwards this data to the in-house IT, such as the ERP level, or to a cloud system, where it is analyzed by an analysis tool and fed back to maintenance systems, for example. This is ideal for detecting possible signs of wear at an early stage based on corresponding indicators, optimally planning and carrying out preventive maintenance, and thus minimizing cost-intensive downtimes. Thanks to its module interface for a wide range of mobile communication standards, data transmission with the SIMATIC IOT2050 can also be wireless.

In the future, the SIMATIC IOT2050 will also have Edge functionality on board, allowing it to be seamlessly integrated into Industrial Edge solutions from Siemens. But this compact, yet high-performance device offers even more: e.g. a processor from the powerful Texas Instruments ARM processor family, with up to 2 GB DDR4 RAM memory and numerous interfaces, including Gbit LAN and two USB interfaces, as well as one serial and one Arduino interface. Furthermore, the Linux/Debian-based SIMATIC Industrial OS is already pre-installed as the operating system on the SIMATIC IOT2050 advanced to save time during commissioning. A wide range of options is available for programming in high-level languages.
